Day 110

This past weekend was the youth camp in the bush. It was such a great time! Most of the children have never been on a vacation and they all really enjoyed it. Towards the end of the weekend they all mentioned that we should have gone for longer. I am not sure if I would have had the energy for a longer trip. Most of the children take their meds at 6am or 7am and waking up before 6a to make sure they were awake made me feel all 29 years that I have achieved. The children were put into families with two adults acting as the ¨mom and dad.¨ My family was made up of 9 children..Cinderella, Priscilla, Becktemba, Tendai, Melissa, Nobody (a boy and his real name), Funguy, Tenashe, and MaryLynn. I sent a picture of the family and me! There were many games and we went in the lake on canoes, a treasure hunt and walking around in the bush looking for fire-wood. A few of the children read poems they had written and one in particular really struck me with the maturity of it. A 16 year old girl was writing about the emotions she lives with such as fear and happiness. I can not imagine the acceptance that these kids have to deal with regarding thier illness. None of them will live to see the 29 years that I have and they will be lucky to turn 20. Having said that, I was thrilled that they were able to enjoy the weekend and really leave the reality of day to day life even if just for a weekend. As always, missing you all like crazy!!!
